Human Haus Tn: A Symphony of Time and Style

Minusplus Design Revitalizes Tainan's Fashion Legacy

In the heart of Tainan's historic district, Minusplus Design crafts a clothing store that harmonizes the city's rich past with contemporary flair, offering a shopping experience steeped in cultural narrative.

At the intersection of heritage and modernity lies Human Haus Tn, a clothing store that stands as a testament to Tainan's sartorial history. Minusplus Design, the visionary behind this project, has meticulously restored and reimagined a space that once pulsed with the city's fashion heartbeat. The store, nestled near the iconic Lin Department Store, draws inspiration from the locale's vibrant story, infusing it with a fresh perspective that challenges the conventional retail mold.

The design's strength lies in its seamless blend of the old and the new. The team at Minusplus Design has employed contrasting techniques to accentuate the space's historical elements, such as the exposed brick walls and wooden roof structure, against the crisp backdrop of the new interior. This juxtaposition not only highlights the site's architectural features but also creates a dialogue between the eras, inviting patrons to partake in a multisensory journey through time.

Addressing the challenge of the narrow Taiwanese layout, the designers have ingeniously utilized a staircase to extend the vertical axis and an hourglass-like plan to expand the horizontal plane. This strategic spatial manipulation enhances movement and sightlines, ensuring a fluid and engaging customer experience within the 52.8 square meter area.

Human Haus Tn's realization is a celebration of simplicity and sustainability. The design team has prioritized the preservation of existing materials, employing stucco, ironwork, and oak veneer stain to breathe new life into the space while safeguarding its integrity with waterproof topcoats. This approach not only honors the building's over 60-year legacy but also underscores a commitment to responsible design practices.

The store's operational design is as thoughtful as its aesthetics. The sloped, long, and narrow space presented unique challenges, which were overcome by creating a visually expansive environment. The mezzanine storage area, accessible by ropes, adds an element of drama and practicality, while the display of preserved wood pieces at eye level enriches the ambiance with a touch of nostalgia.

In conclusion, Human Haus Tn is not merely a retail space; it's a canvas where history and modernity paint a collective future. Awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2024, this project by Minusplus Design is a celebration of Tainan's cultural fabric, woven into a design that invites visitors to leave their mark in a space where light and shadow narrate stories of yesteryears and today. As the sun casts its timeless glow, Human Haus Tn stands as a beacon of design excellence, where every garment tells a tale, and every visit leaves an indelible impression.
